Smishing Attacks - SMS Text Scams: A SMS Text scam, also known as a Smishing, involves someone receiving a text message stating that they need to contact their credit union and provide personal information, they have won a prize and need to click the link in the text or something similar. AACFCU will not ask for your personal information through a text message.

Ransomware Attacks: Ransomware is a type of malware that prevents or limits users from accessing their system, by locking the system's screen completely or blocking access to their files, pictures, etc. by encrypting them until a ransom is paid. Users may encounter this type of threat by visiting malicious or compromised websites or from clicking a malicious link or attachment within an email. Once the Ransomware is executed the user would typically receive an email, or a full-page image would display on the screen, stating that if they want access to their data they would need to pay a ransom.
It is in important to note however, that paying the ransom does not guarantee that user would get the decryption key or unlock tool required to regain access to their infected system or files.
Unfortunately, if your computer has become infected with ransomware, we cannot advise you on what to do in this type of situation. However, we are more than willing to better educate you on ways to protect against these types of attacks in the future.
